Consistent standards remains of the utmost importance throughout every stage of the process. Our abattoir makes use of the most advanced equipment and technology and is one of the most modern facilities of its kind in Africa, with a capacity to process up to 2 040 head of cattle daily.
At Karan Beef we believe in humane slaughter and have implemented strict systems of maintenance and control that comply with the most stringent health standards.
We conduct ongoing audits and have zero tolerance for sub-standard hygiene practices. As a result, we are able to minimise any risk of bacterial cross contamination throughout our abattoir.

Aside from traditional cuts we make optimal use of each animal by processing red and rough offal, as well as a range of value-added offal products that include tripe, liver and sweet meats. These products are used for sale as basic foodstuffs throughout South Africa.
At our by-products plant we produce blood meal, carcass meal, and tallow, which is used in pharmaceutical products and as additives for pet foods. The hides of the animals are sold to Bader South Africa for use in the manufacture of leather car seats.
Our powerful network database allows us to track slaughtered animals back from the abattoir to their farm of origin, enabling us to provide breeders with valuable feedback on their cattle.
To maintain the export status we enjoy at Karan Beef, all health inspections during the slaughter process are carried out by the meat inspection division of the South African Department of Agriculture. This allows us to meet demanding international food safety standards.
Every carcass is electronically stimulated, steam vacuumed and PH monitored to ensure consistent standards of our beef. Once the cattle are slaughtered and dressed, a certain percentage are sold as swinging sides and the balance are moved through to our deboning plant and meat processing facility where we create a variety of beef products.
