About Us

Logistics

From breeder to feedlot to supermarket shelf – our days are a complex system of choreographed time and motion. To produce quality beef, we constantly play a delicate balancing game. In meeting the demand for our products we must source and buy up to 2040 head of cattle every working day.

Logistics

Having transported these weaners to our feedlot and processed them upon arrival, they must then be fed and cared for. Every day we feed an average of 10 kilograms of mixed rations to each and every animal. During these feedings, which take place three times a day, our 140 000 strong herd will eat their way through 1 740 tons of mixed rations.

Our daily raw material requirements for these rations are delivered to our farm by as many as 30 trucks with a 30-ton capacity, which bring these raw materials to us from suppliers across Southern Africa.

Then, the cattle must be transferred to our abattoir – again at a rate of 2040 per day if demand is to be met. Once slaughtered and processed, up to 510 000kg of the best quality Karan Beef and beef products must be transported to our distribution centre for delivery to customers around South Africa and the world.

To keep our processes flowing and meet client’s demands we make use of an advanced GPS satellite tracking system to control and monitor our fleet of over 70 trucks as we cover up to 7-million kilometers every year in a complex web of supply and demand.
